In the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood, Viceroy Chicago offers its hotel guests a much-desired mix of classic charm and modern amenities. Designed by Goettsch Partners, the 13,935-m2 (150,000-sf) property blends the facing of a historic hotel with the comfort of a modern build.
Located on the site of city’s former historic Cedar Hotel, the property’s 2017 construction maintained the Chicago landmark’s original brick and terracotta façade as it was when originally designed by Rissman and Hirschfeld in the 1920s. The preserved four-story structure fronts Viceroy Chicago’s new 18-story glass hotel tower, creating a contrasting blend of old and new design.
Owned by Viceroy Hotel Group, the 180-room tower features the neighborhood’s first roof-top pool, complete with views of Lake Michigan and the city’s famed Magnificent Mile district. The hotel’s interior, designed by TAL Studio, contains 335 m2 (3600 sf) of meeting and event space, including a 204-m2 (2200-sf) ballroom with an adjoining terrace.
Additionally, Viceroy Chicago’s interior spaces celebrate the city’s artistic and cultural landscape. The facility’s public spaces include dynamic art fixtures, including a 9.1-m (30-ft) poem wall in the lobby’s living room, as well as distinct headboard-walls in each guest room, featuring a digital reproduction of an original work produced by London artist Tim Modus.
