Optimized to accept solar and other net-zero\u00a0energy technologies, the workplace design offers\u00a0employees a healthy,\u00a0well-ventilated, and visually open office filled with natural daylight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reimagined building needed\u00a0to feel and operate as one large open office with strong visual connections\u00a0among staff\u00a0members, while also accommodating private offices where the firm\u2019s\u00a0lawyers conduct sensitive, confidential work,\u201d said Christopher Alt,\u00a0RA, Studio\u00a0Ma\u2019s principal.<\/p>\n<p>The inventive solution transforms the structure\u00a0into a large, two-story collaborative space along\u00a0with enclosed cubicles and\u00a0conference rooms, all acoustically isolated from one another by glass\u00a0partitions. A new mezzanine allows\u00a0for expansion and amenities.<\/p>\n<p>Alt adds the use of glass\u00a0was key to achieving the design intent: A merging of the law firm\u2019s openness\u00a0and teamwork along with\u00a0ensuring each practitioner\u2019s requisite separation and discretion.\u00a0Meticulous detailing of the black-framed glass partitions ensures carefully\u00a0controlled acoustics while allowing daylight and openness indoors and views to\u00a0the outside.<\/p>\n<p>The transparent partitions bring daylight and views deep into the\u00a0building interior,\u00a0offering staff members access to natural sunlight\u00a0in all areas. A set of operable skylights illuminates the spaces from\u00a0above\u00a0while also circulating fresh air by means of a chimney or stack effect, a\u00a0technique that draws ventilation air and circulates cooler air toward\u00a0work\u00a0areas, where needed, and flushes hot air out of the roof. Large glass openings\u00a0on the building\u2019s exterior likewise allow daylight in and\u00a0connect occupants to\u00a0the surrounding neighborhood. A continuous fa\u00e7ade of modern wood louvers wraps\u00a0the entire building, shading it\u00a0from the desert sun\u2019s harsh rays.<\/p>\n<p>Staying within the client\u2019s\u00a0budget, Studio Ma expanded the project scope to include a mezzanine level with\u00a0a fitness center for\u00a0employees that doubles as a meditation room and an amenity\u00a0deck to house team-building exercises and public events. A caf\u00e9 with a\u00a0break\u00a0area for casual socializing is also centrally located for staff and visiting\u00a0clients to enjoy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Architecture
