Another 35 percent responded they either \u201cdid not care if existing buildings are reused\u201d or \u201cprefer a new building\u201d so long as a new LACMA is large enough to contain the collections.\u00a0Ten percent abstained.<\/p>\n<p>The poll\u2019s respondents were also able to review and vote on the six finalists of the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionspecifier.com\/finalists-for-lacma-not-lackma-design-contest-revealed\/\">LACMA Not LackMA<\/a>\u2019 international design competition\u2014three building from the ground up and three integrating existing fabric.\u00a0There was a tie for the ground-up ideas between Vienna-based Coop Himmelb(l)au\u2019s \u201cLACMA Wing\u201d and Los Angeles-based Paul Murdoch Architects\u2019 \u201cUnified Campus.\u201d \u201cReimagining\/Restructuring\u201d by Kaya Design of London was the clear favorite of those using all or some of the existing buildings. Each of the Peoples\u2019 Choice selections will receive $500.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe response to the survey shows how invested the public is in the cultural life of Los Angeles,\u201d notes architecture writer Greg Goldin, co-chair of the Citizens\u2019 Brigade.\u00a0 \u201cWe are hopeful that the County Board of Supervisors will take this into account and reconsider their monetary support for LACMA\u2019s insufficient and unpopular plan.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An online poll has found only five percent approve Peter Zumthor\u2019s design for the new Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
