Dove Federal Building was among 26 winners of the Design-Build Institute of America\u2019s (DBIA\u2019s) awards of excellence, taking three prizes and being name \u2018project of the year.\u2019 <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">Photo courtesy DBIA<\/span><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dbia.org\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Design-Build Institute of America<\/a> (DBIA) celebrated excellence in design-build by awarding projects from across the country.<\/p>\n<p>During the Design-Build Conference and Expo awards dinner in Denver, Colorado, DBIA\u2019s panel of industry experts named 26 winners of National Award of Merit in 10 categories. One project from each category also won a National Award of Excellence in architectural design, engineering design, process, or teaming, and one received \u2018project of the year.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s awards competition distinguished itself by the strength of the field,\u201d said DBIA\u2019s CEO, Lisa Washington. \u201cThe jury\u2019s difficulty in choosing winners demonstrates how much design-build expertise has expanded since we started the awards program in 1996. The winners are exemplary examples of \u2018Design-Build Done Right.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Benjamin P. Grogan and Jerry L. Dove Federal Building in Miramar, Florida, was named \u2018project of the year,\u2019 and also won excellence in process architectural design, and federal\/state\/municipal awards. The 35,582-m\u00b2 (383,000-sf) building operates as a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) campus. It was delivered on time in 25 months and cost $157,200,728, which was on budget. Designed by Gensler, Krueck and Sexton, the building is an iconic structure capable of withstanding security threats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite change orders that would have added four months to the substantial completion date, the project was delivered on schedule due to the collaboration between team members,\u201d said Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Other National Award of Excellence winners include:<\/p>\n<p>\u25cf I-485 outer-loop projects (Charlotte, North Carolina)\u2014engineering design and transportation;<br \/>\n\u25cf St. Jude Medical Center Northwest Tower (Fullerton, California)\u2014teaming and healthcare;<br \/>\n\u25cf County of San Diego, California, Waterfront Park and Parking Structure\u2014civic\/assembly;<br \/>\n\u25cf Mission Hall: Global Health and Clinical Sciences Building (San Francisco, California)\u2014commercial\/office;<br \/>\n\u25cf YMCA Student Centre at the University of Washington (Tacoma)\u2014education;<br \/>\n\u25cf U.S. Cold Storage Distribution Center (Covington, Tennessee)\u2014industrial\/research;<br \/>\n\u25cf Old Main renovation at University of Arizona (Tucson)\u2014renovation\/restoration; and<br \/>\n\u25cf Lawton Valley and Station Number 1 Water Treatment (Newport, Rhode Island)\u2014water\/wastewater.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) celebrated excellence in design-build by awarding projects from across the country.
