Panels varied in color to enhance the center\u2019s exterior aesthetics\u2014for instance, 10,576 m<sup>2<\/sup> (113,846 sf) of 76-mm (3-in.) horizontal panels were installed in white. Other panels, measuring 51 mm (2 in.), included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>211 m<sup>2<\/sup> (2269 sf) in sandstone;<\/li>\n<li>9013 m<sup>2<\/sup> (97,015 sf) and 2868 m<sup>2<\/sup> (30,876 sf) in respective shades of gray; and<\/li>\n<li>176 m<sup>2<\/sup> (1896 sf) comprising stainless steel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Featuring thermal efficiency, moisture control, and weather resistance suitable for the hurricane risk in Orlando, the panels are pressure-equalized along horizontal joints. Insulated metal vertical (IMV) joints are also employed, improving visual appeal by creating the illusion of an uninterrupted fa\u00e7ade and minimizing both streaking and staining. All panels used are 22-gage and feature foamed-in-place cores to minimize gaps in insulation.<\/p>\n<p>The building also includes a number of features intended to enhance its relevance to veterans. One unique feature is its location\u2014adjacent to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityoforlando.net\/parks\/orlando-veterans-memorial-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orlando Veterans Memorial Park<\/a>. The hospital is part of the 26-ha (65-acre) \u2018Medical City,\u2019 which includes a 120-bed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlando.va.gov\/services\/CLC.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Community Living Center<\/a> (CLC) and 60-bed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orlando.va.gov\/services\/Domiciliary.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Domiciliary and Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Program<\/a> as well as the 134-bed VAMC.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_42849\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42849\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionspecifier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/BT2_4983-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-42849\" src=\"https:\/\/www.constructionspecifier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/BT2_4983-1-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.constructionspecifier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/BT2_4983-1-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.constructionspecifier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/BT2_4983-1-768x507.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.constructionspecifier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/BT2_4983-1-500x330.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.constructionspecifier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/BT2_4983-1.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-42849\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The panels come in several different colors and feature foamed-in-place cores and insulated metal vertical (IMV) joints.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To support its service of approximately 115,000 veterans each year, VAMC\u2019s interior offers features such as flat door handles in patient exam rooms. Such hardware is operable not only by hands, but also by elbows. Gardens and a large dining area are also onsite.<\/p>\n<p>VAMC was designed by <a href=\"http:\/\/rlfarchitects.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RLF Architects<\/a>, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crowncorr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crown Corr<\/a> as the installer and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brasfieldgorrie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brasfield &amp; Gorrie<\/a> as the general contractor.
