Image courtesy SmithGroupJJR<\/span><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgbc.org\/usgbc-virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Virginia<\/a> chapter announced the recipients of its 2018 USGBC Virginia Leadership Awards, recognizing nominated building owners, designers, and construction professionals within the community whose projects achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.<\/p>\n<p>Among this year\u2019s winners is the Chesapeake Bay Foundation\u2019s LEED-Platinum certified Brock Environmental Center, which received the organization\u2019s Exceptional Leadership. Designed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smithgroupjjr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SmithGroupJJR<\/a>, the facility employs a variety of sustainability strategies, including permeable paving and on-site waste treatment. All of the water consumed onsite is treated rainwater, requiring no use of municipal water sources.<\/p>\n<p>Other winners include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fontaine Fire Station (LEED Platinum)\u2014Innovative Design, New Construction award;<\/li>\n<li>CHKD Health Center and Urgent Care at Landstown (LEED Silver)\u2014Building Performance award;<\/li>\n<li>Bow Creek Recreation Center\u2014Virginia Environments award;<\/li>\n<li>Huguenot High School (LEED Gold)\u2014Community Champion award; and<\/li>\n<li>Virginia Tech\u2014Green Leader award (organization).<\/li>\n<li>Nell Boyle (City of Roanoke), Tim Cole (Virginia Beach City Public Schools), and Carrie Webster (County of Henrico)\u2014Green Leader award (volunteers).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>USGBC Virginia also honored the participants of the 2017-2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgbc.org\/articles\/connect-dots-green-schools-challenge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Connect the Dots Green Schools Challenge<\/a>, which asks K\u201312 schools across Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland to implement creative, effective, no- or low-cost sustainable practices for their schools.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>USGBC Virginia announced the recipients of its 2018 Leadership Awards, recognizing nominated building owners, designers, and construction professionals within the community whose projects achieved LEED certification.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4887,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1029],"tags":[1036,2272,127,601,4292,1457,3290],"class_list":["post-64949","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news","tag-awards","tag-leadership-in-energy-and-environmental-design","tag-leed","tag-sustainability","tag-us-green-building-council","tag-usgbc","tag-virginia","entry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.8 -
