The Association for Preservation Technology International (APTI) will hold a stained glass symposium to educate and encourage collaboration between professionals in the industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cJewels of Light: Creation, Preservation, Appreciation of Stained Glass\u201d will be held in June at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. The event focuses on creating a dialogue among stained glass designers, design and engineering professionals, preservation specialists, and stained glass fabricators.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe goal will be accomplished by the presentation of scholarly papers, panels, roundtable discussions, and demonstrations by stained glass artisans,\u201d said the group\u2019s Janet Bascom. \u201cThe symposium will allow discussion and debate within the common overlap in preservation theory (the written word) and practice (the application on the stained glass) to create an understanding of optimal models of practice for new design and preservation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two-day gathering also includes presentations from keynote speakers and tours of the Washington National Cathedral, Daughters of the American Revolution Lay Light Restoration, the Thomas Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress, and the National Presbyterian Church.<\/p>\n

\u25cf \u201cIsothermal Glazing at Old South Church (Boston, MA): Conservation and Protection of Historic Stained Glass,\u201d by Arthur Femenella Jr., vice-president at Femenella and Associates;
\n\u25cf \u201cFrom Isothermal to iPads: Using New Technologies to Preserve the Windows of St. Patrick\u2019s Cathedral (New York City, NY),\u201d by Jean Phifer, consulting restoration architect to Murphy Burnham and Buttrick, and Drew Anderson, conservator for the department objects conservation at the Metropolitan Museum of Art;
\n\u25cf \u201cGlass and Spectacle: Relighting St. James United,\u201d by Conor Sampson, principal at CSDesign;
\n\u25cf \u201cAnti-ageing Remedies for Stained Glass,\u201d by keynote speaker Keith Barley, conservator at Barley Studios;
\n\u25cf \u201cStained Glass at the Library of Congress: Multiple Levels of Complexity and Collaboration,\u201d by James Zeeck, architect and senior project manager for Architects of the Capitol; and
\n\u25cf \u201cHouse of Commons Stained Glass (Ottawa, Ont.): Protection and Proxies,\u201d by James Maddigan, senior associate at Robertson Martin Architects, and Evelyn Guinan, principal at EGD Glass.<\/p>\n
