Choosing between restoring or replacing cracked, spalled, and displaced brick facades |
Restoring brick facades plays an essential role in reusing existing building stock. Every project should answer this question: can the facade be saved or has the brick’s deterioration critically compromised the wall’s stability? Existing brick masonry is often treated as a maintenance item and not much thought is given to whole system performance.

Improving water management and energy efficiency with tapered roof insulation |
Installing a low-slope roof is a project that requires careful planning and design to ensure the new system will meet the rigorous demands during its service life. Employing tapered insulation is a cost-effective way to increase a roof’s thermal efficiency while also implementing an adequate rainwater management strategy that includes both proper drainage and elimination of ponding water.

FIELD TESTING OF STOREFRONTS PER AAMA 502/503 - SPECIFICALLY FIELD TEST PRESSURES |
I am looking for feedback regarding validation of storefront installations through field water test using AAMA 502, 503, and using ASTM E1105 test protocols. My question(s), for architects and consultants: what is the advantage of field-testing storefront systems at full lab pressures? What is the benefit to the project, and owner, by disregarding the 1/3 reduction standard? What do you perceive as disadvantages of holding to the 1/3 reduction standard? What are the disadvantages to specifying full laboratory field test pressures?

BACK TO THE BASICS - SPECIFICATION REVISION NOTATION |
I would like to survey the community to see how you are notating specification changes (revisions, addendum, change directives, etc.) that you provide following original issue of the contract documents—and in particular the project manual. Knowing that we all use different tools and software platforms, I am curious as to what other firms are doing.
