Building healthcare in a coastal environment
In early 2018, RDG Planning & Design and its partner firms began design work to replace an existing, nearly 50-year-old healthcare facility on the Shell Point Retirement Community campus (a Continuing Care Retirement Community [CCRC]) in Ft. Myers, Florida. Borne out of a necessity created by aging-in-place residents, but also from a desire to provide world-class service, the owner acknowledged the time is now to build for the future.

Why fire sprinklers belong above suspended drop-out ceilings
A drop-out ceiling is, “a suspended ceiling system, which is installed below the [fire suppression] sprinklers, with listed translucent or opaque panels that are heat sensitive and fall from their setting when exposed to heat,” according to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 13 Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, §3.3.61.

CUSTOM BAPTISTRY GLAZING
Looking for some design/spec help for the glass in one of our Baptistries. It is an Octagonal shape, butt glazed with silicon set in a concrete base. Glass has water filled to 2/3 the height. Size is large about 2500 gallons with about 800 gallons against the glass. Structural engineer has designed the concrete but won't touch the glass design. Contacted a few manufacturers and they said to contact an aquarium designer. Can anyone help please?

BUDGETING METHODS
We’re embarking on a preservation project in a new to me state; New Jersey! Home of unions which is also foreign to me for construction projects. I’ve heard a bit from peers that good preservation contractors are thin on the ground, so I thought I’d reach out to all of you! We’re nowhere near close to construction, but I want to start researching to get the lay of the land. They don’t have to be based in New Jersey. Any thoughts or good/bad experiences you’ve had with the historic trades in New Jersey is appreciated!
