Policymakers urged to adopt updated energy code for climate resilience |
As heat alerts affected nearly 110 million people—a third of the U.S. population across 15 states— the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) published a new report on July 13, titled “Enhancing Resilience in Buildings Through Energy Efficiency.” The analysis finds the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) can reduce deaths from extreme heat by as much as 80 percent.

Optimizing HVAC systems to decarbonize buildings |
Within commercial buildings, HVAC systems are responsible for 67 percent of the total emissions emitted. This presents a major challenge for facility managers, who balance the day-to-day operational demands of their buildings with the need to reduce carbon footprints and energy costs.

Air barrier requirements/building envelope testing |
I'm working on some research related to air barrier requirements for energy code compliance and Building Envelope Testing (BET). Is there anything in MasterSpec/SpecLink that addresses the testing of the building thermal envelope to ASTM E779, ASTM E3158, ASTM E1827 or ANSI/RESNET/ICC 380? What section(s) would normally contain those requirements?

Gymnasium specialist |
Greetings CSI Community. I’m looking for any leads on a gymnasium specialist. After a conversation with our athletic department on campus today, I learned they are in the early stages of updating an existing gym space and looking for design firms with experience in this area. From what I gathered, they are interested in getting it ADA compliant along with enhancing fan experience. Please let me know if you have any contacts to send my way, preferably in the Midwest region.
