In pursuit of acoustical equity |
|
Given the intense focus on health and safety as well as the changes in work/life balance precipitated by the COVID-19 outbreak, it is not surprising the pandemic has accelerated the healthy-building movement and the ‘people-first’ mindset spearheaded by standards such as WELL and Fitwel. There is burgeoning consensus that buildings need to be designed with deep commitment to the well-being of their occupants. Effective acoustics are key to healthy buildings.

The impact of buildings on the environment is surprising, but nonetheless, critical. Buildings consume 40 percent of the globe’s energy use and are responsible for 40 percent of emissions both worldwide and in the United States. The 10-screen Regal Cinemas movie theater became an anchor in the development, and the sweeping metal roof over its entrance helps it stand out among the surrounding stores and restaurants.

REQUIREMENT TO PROVIDE UNSPECIFIED PRODUCTS |
I have not seen this before. A specification that calls for submitting unspecified products for review. “For Installation Materials and Accessories: Submit a complete list of unspecified products that are nonetheless required for installation of work of this Section, not more than 14 days after Notice of Award.” I personally think this is problematic and onerous. Just because I have not seen it does not mean it is wrong or uncommon, just new to me. Has anyone come across this before?

DETERMINING APPROPRIATE CONTRACT TIMES |
Over the years, I have noticed many design professionals and owners drafting the initial owner-contractor agreement, prior to solicitation for bids or proposals, often do not give much thought or effort to determining the required contract times. Guessing wrong and stipulating overlong or too-short contract times will cost the owner and likely make for a difficult construction stage.
