Options for preventative roof maintenance

Although the roof is one of the most critical components of the building envelope, it can also be the most overlooked element. Deteriorated paving, spalled bricks, cracked precast panels, loose metal panels, failed windows, etc., can be seen from the ground with minimal effort. However, blocked drains, blisters, loose metal flashing, and deteriorated membranes go unnoticed unless one physically walks on the roof and undertakes a review.

Specifications for design-build projects

Specifications originally intended for design bid-build (DBB) projects require significant revisions to be suitable for design-build or integrated project delivery (IPD). A substantial challenge faced by professionals preparing construction specifications for design build projects is most master specifications were developed for traditional DBB or its ‘close relation,’ design-negotiate-build (DNB). Often, DBB specifications can be adapted with reasonable effort and cost for use on construction manager as advisor (CMa) and construction manager-at-risk (CMAR) projects. Greater challenges arise when adapting DBB source documents for design-build.

PLEASE HELP WITH NATATORIUM STEEL
Does anyone have options as how to protect a structural truss in a high school natatorium within the chlorinated environment. Our standard has typically been Tnemec primer but another proposed option was galvanize the truss, sandblast imperfections, then apply the Tnemec primer. Truss sizes are 88DLH18 - J33, significant size and the current plan is to run fabric ducts through the joists.

GREEN SCIENCE POLICY INSTITUTE REPORT ON PFAS IN BUILDING MATERIALS
I was asked to review the possibility of eliminating PFAS from our specs. As a water engineering company, PFAS is a growing concern among our clients providing drinking water. After skimming the report, my heart sinks at the enormity of the potential effort. Is this on anyone else’s radar?
