Global skin, hair, and body care brand Aesop now has a new stone and glass facade store in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, transformed by Alex Zilberman Architects (AZA).

AZA’s scope of work supported Aesop’s in-house concept designers and the brand team in transforming a former pizzeria into a high-end body care experience.

The glossy, geometric posts of the shelving structure evoke the distinctive stepped profiles of Manhattan’s architecture, designed to preserve access to light and air at street level. Each recessed tier of the post corresponds to a specific human interaction, such as seating height or the placement of hands on a basin.

At the center there is a stone basin. Then, upon entering further, visitors get access to a secluded area, where a private basin is discreetly tucked away from view. This quiet, contemplative space represents the core of the brand, a place of intimacy, flowing water, and engagement with the brand’s aromatic formulations.
