The Gypsum Association has announced the revision of GA 214, a specialized publication on gypsum board finishes.
Collaborating with the Association of the Wall and Ceilings Industries International (AWCI), the Ceilings and Interior Systems Construction Association (CISCA), the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA), and the Drywall Finishing Council (DWFC), the group reworked Recommended Levels of Finish for Gypsum Board, Glass Mat, and Fiber-reinforced Gypsum Panels so it is more comprehensible. Additionally, it now also includes recommendations for unfaced and non-paper-faced gypsum panels.
The report guides architects, contractors, and other interested parties in establishing mutual expectations by describing and communicating interior finishing requirements.
“As the needs, requirements, and expectations regarding drywall finishing evolve over time, it is essential related industry organizations collaborate to ensure changes are made in accordance with established practices,” said Robert Negri, DWFC president. “GA 214 is a great example of industry organizations collaborating for the common good, which is why the DWFC’s diverse Technical Committee made this revision a priority.”
However, not everything in the report has changed. The levels of finish still range from Level 0, where no taping, finishing, or accessories are required, to Level 5, which is the recommended finish for dark paint, paints with sheen or gloss, or surfaces exposed to severe lighting conditions.
