A grocery store renovation is expanding the store’s appeal by positioning it as a community hub.

Town & Country Markets in Poulsbo, Wash., teamed up with design partner Cushing Terrell to prioritize meal planning, convenience, and a new on-site restaurant.

Design updates for the 7,529 m2 (81,043 sf) location include a classroom, test kitchen, and outdoor patio. The store’s beauty and housewares sections received updated fixtures and lighting. The deli and cheese areas were renovated, while the produce and floral departments gained new signage, valances, and casing.

The Field House restaurant is integrated into the market through a partnership with chef Ethan Stowell. The design team created a clear visual separation between the restaurant and the market.

The design updates include a reimagined meal inspiration centre.

The team transformed the existing upper-level mezzanine and patio into an indoor-outdoor experience. They replaced concrete walls with floor-to-ceiling glazing across both levels. A bright, transparent dining space now occupies the former deli and back-of-house kitchen.

The project team at Cushing Terrell was led by principal-in-charge Kara Eberle-Lott and project manager Sivani Krishna. Design leadership was provided by Alice Wang, with architectural support from Blake Cronin and KuoChao Tseng.
