Rising from the heart of Hudson Yards, Edge invites visitors to experience a new 360-degree vantage of New York City’s iconic skyline featuring a glass floor, angled glass walls, and a champagne bar at over 335 m (1100 ft) in the air.
Edge, the Western Hemisphere’s highest outdoor observation deck, will open to the public in March next near. Piercing the sky at 100 floors from its record-setting height, Edge will reveal never-before-seen views spanning up to 128 km (80 mi). The deck extends out 24 m (80 ft) from the 100th floor of 30 Hudson Yards.
“Stepping onto Edge is like walking out into the sky,” said Jason Horkin, executive director of Hudson Yards Experiences. “The entire experience is designed to inspire visitors and ignite a new passion for New York City with multiple, built-in thrill elements that ensure Edge becomes a must-see local attraction and a top spot on every travelers’ bucket list.”
Edge is designed by William Pedersen and Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF). The 346,998-kg (765,000-lb) observation deck comprises 15 sections, each weighing between 15,876 and 45,359 kg (35,000 and 100,000 lb), all bolted together and anchored to the east and south sides of the building. The 697-m2 (7500-sf) outdoor viewing area is surrounded by 79 glass panels, each weighing 635 kg (1400 lb).
