New Video Shows Ease of Recycling PVC (Vinyl) Roofing Membranes

For years, the Vinyl Roofing Division of the Chemical Fabrics and Film Association (CFFA) has touted the recyclability of PVC roofing membranes. Already, more than 200 million pounds of pre- and post-consumer recycled PVC roofing have avoided the landfill, and over 10 million square feet of roof area has been recycled at the end of its service life. Still, some roofing contractors and building owners may be hesitant to recycle PVC roofs, due to a lack of familiarity with the proper procedures.

A new video, produced by the CFFA’s Vinyl Roofing Division, helps demystify the recycling process. It explains, in detail and using plain language, how to prepare used PVC roofing for recycling. You can watch the video here.

With a few extra steps and minimal extra labor, mechanically fastened or ballasted PVC roof membranes can be removed and packaged for recycling. The video goes through the typical steps necessary for a successful recycling project.

The industry is hopeful that this information will encourage more building stakeholders to recycle PVC roofing membrane at the end of its service life.
