|
There are many alternative design options for implementing sound absorption over spaces when an acoustic ceiling is not desired. Vertical sound baffles and banners can be suspended as floating elements for greater visual impact.

Controlling moisture balance with watertight vapor-open assemblies |
|
Varying vapor permeability of different insulation products, membranes, and other building materials introduces significant complexity to wall assembly design. Some insulation materials, like stone wool and fiberglass, are vapor permeable, while others, such as extruded polystyrene (XPS), expanded polystyrene (EPS), polyisocyanurate, and closed-cell spray foam, are relatively impermeable. |

THERMAL BREAK FOR OLD STOREFRONTS |
On one of our projects, there is an existing storefront system facing due West. The owners are experiencing heat gain, and have already installed window film to help at the glass. There is no thermal break built into the frame of this old storefront system. We would like to keep the storefront system and not replace. Does anyone know of a thermal break assembly that can be retrofitted to the interior face of the storefront framing; that still has a metal finish? Is there a system with a thermal break and brake metal shape?

WARRANTY - OWNER SIGNATURE REQUIRED OR WARRANTY IS VOID |
I was asked by a colleague if it is standard practice for product warranties to require the owner to sign the warranty to make it valid. I thought I could answer it. But then I realized I really don’t actually read that many warranties. I read through this warranty and it’s pretty much standard, the manufacturer only accepts responsibility for their product and excludes all impacts not in their control. Then, at the end, it requires the owner to sign the warranty in order for the warranty to be valid. No signature, no warranty. I did some digging and I did find a few products that do this and at least one installer. So, I am asking the community at large, is this a normal thing? |
