The American Wood Council (AWC) has released seven updated cradle-to-gate, industry-wide environmental product declarations (EPDs) for wood products. These third-party verified updates replace the 2013 editions previously available for use in determining the environmental footprint of the industry’s principal products, as well as with green building rating systems and sustainable construction standards.

Oregon grants approval for wood buildings up to 18 stories

Oregon has become the first state to approve the use of science-based building code requirements for tall mass timber buildings under its Statewide Alternate Method (SAM). The new document, SAM No. 18-01, Tall Wood Buildings, provides prescriptive technical requirements for tall wood buildings ranging from eight to 18 stories, depending on design and construction methods.

AWC releases design specification for wood construction

American Wood Council (AWC) regularly reviews and updates its codes and standards to keep pace with technological advances and material innovations affecting the use of wood products in the country. The council recently updated its National Design Specification (NDS) for Wood Construction. Developed by AWC’s wood design standards committee, the 2018 NDS is referenced for wood design in this year’s International Building Code (IBC).
