Monumental devastation from 2017’s hurricanes Irving, Maria, and Jose has caused architects and building professionals to look back at lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans in August 2005.
When it was time to transform New Orleans’ historic Barnett’s Furniture store into an Ace Hotel, designers wanted to maintain the 90-year-old building’s original Art Deco façade, but also upgrade the structure’s features. Building professionals selected aluminum-framed windows, designed to replicate the look of steel-framed installations popular in the early 20th century.
This month, the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) announced winners of its annual awards program at a technical meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. Attendance at the event hit an all-time high, with more than 600 industry members and 60 trade show exhibitors present.
