The world’s largest concrete arch bridge for high-speed rail service, the Viaduct Over River Almonte, Spain, won the 2018 Excellence in Concrete Construction Award. Presented by the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the award is given annually to projects demonstrating excellence in concrete innovation and technology.
Last month, the Decorative Concrete Council (DCC), a specialty council of the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), announced the winners of its 10th annual Decorative Concrete Awards competition at World of Concrete in Las Vegas.
Completed in fall 2016, the University of Iowa’s (UI’s) Visual Arts Building houses a variety of the school’s art departments, including ceramics, sculpture, print making, and photography. The 11,706-m2 (126,000-sf) loft-like space, designed by Steven Holl Architects, encourages interconnection between the arts, creating a collaborative and immersive student experience.
Last week, the Metal Construction Association (MCA) announced the winners of its annual Chairman’s Awards at its winter meeting in San Diego, California. Selected by a panel of architects, eight projects involving MCA member companies were recognized for outstanding use of metal in buildings.
