The world’s largest concrete arch bridge for high-speed rail service, the Viaduct Over River Almonte, Spain, won the 2018 Excellence in Concrete Construction Award. Presented by the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the award is given annually to projects demonstrating excellence in concrete innovation and technology.
The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) has released the full program for its 2018 Tall + Urban Innovation Conference, which will be held in Chicago, May 30 to 31. The symposium will feature presentations from the owner/developer and design teams for each of the 48 CTBUH Annual Award finalist projects.
The American Concrete Institute (ACI) will host its spring convention from March 25 to 29 at the Grand America Hotel and the Little America Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah. More than 2000 engineers, architects, contractors, educators, and manufacturers are expected to convene at the event to collaborate on concrete codes, specifications, and practices. The theme of the convention is ‘Concrete Elevated.’
Stage wizardry is on full at the newly opened Hale Centre Theatre—officially named Mountain America Performing Arts Center—in Sandy, Utah. The $80-million theater measures 12,356-m (133,000 sf) and includes two stages. The Centre Stage is the one of the most technologically sophisticated auditoriums in the world. Utah-based Beecher Walker Architects worked with Tait Towers and the Hale Centre’s leadership to create an entertainment facility with the stage as the jaw-dropping centerpiece.
